Day 212 - On the Fringes

Trying to stay ahead of the game this week so getting this challenge done ASAP. I've got Stamping workshop on Wednesday night and gotta have my cards done by Tuesday pm in order to get them all done this month. Anyway, I guess blue, black and white are going to be my Christmas card colors this year...second card with that scheme. This one is Baja Breeze tho! :) Snowflake panel was stamped in versamark and embossed with glittery EP (doesn't show up well in the photo). The "fringe" is some feathery ribbon that I've had for years...trimmed it a bit to fit the card. Thought it kinda looked like icicles. The image is a Studio G stamp and the sentiment is from a Studio G clear set. Colored with prismamarkers with Icicle stickles on the ice. Think that about covers it. Oh yeah, layout is from Get Sketchy (GS#7). TFL and aloha!

Day 206 - Tuesday Triplets

Think I got this one...just thought...is it okay to have one panel?!? Oh well, this is also for my personal challenge of making a Christmas card a week (missed last week, so need to make two in one of the coming weeks!). Deets:

Day 209 - It's a Jungle Out There

Deets:

• Paper: River Rock, Chocolate Chip, Whisper White, Very Vanilla, tropical patterned paper (sorry don't know where this is from)
• Image: Changito the Monkey and Changito Dos (Stampendous) - colored with prismamarker; the leaves were stamped and embossed with clear EP
• Ink: Palette Noir, Versacolor Fresh Green, Lime, Sand Beige, Pinecone - Lime was used for the background sponging, Sand Beige and Pinecone used for the ground and edge of tag
• Other: hemp twine, eyelet

Day 210 - Try a Technique (sanding) - hard to tell but the edges of the leaf and the sentiment panel were sanded...wish I'd had some of the core'dinations CS! I tried to ink the sanding so it showed up a bit more...still not real obvious

[Spooky]

This is my card for Day 207 - DIY Patterned Paper at 365 Cards. I also used the MOJO105 layout and the SCS CC235. Deets:

• Paper: Old Olive, Elegant Eggplant, and Basic Black (whisper white was used for the main image); Background paper was handmade by repeatedly stamping the [spooky] sentiment in versamark and embossing with clear ep.
• Image: All Hallow's Eve (Inkadinkado) - getting some use out of this set!, [spooky] (Hampton Art @ Mike's)
• Ink: Versacolor: Boysenberry, Heliotrope, Black, versamark (for the spiderweb and the background) - I've been in a sponging mood so used this for the background on the image panel and to darken the bg panel edges
• Other: Little ribbon spool (don't know about this one), circle punches for the scallops at the bottom
  

I also wanted to apologize to everyone that I haven't taken the time to leave comments on your blogs...I truly appreciate all the ones you leave for me, but between work, getting my card done, and needing to sleep, I haven't had time to leave comments on your creations :( Though I admit that I blurk a bit and get inspired! Day 205 - Color Scheme

Below is my submission for the Color Scheme challenge at 365 Cards based on the scheme above. :) CASE'd Michelle Zindorf's Autumn Day card/tutorial. Layout came from SCS SC247 .

• Paper: Kraft, Chocolate Chip, Really Rust, Parisian Breeze DSP, whisper white (for image)
• Image: Fall Season (inkadinkado)
• Ink: Versacolor Paprika, Marigold, Burgundy, Sand Beige, Brown, Pinecone, Sky Blue, Lagoon Blue - leaves in the foreground were stamped with the first three colors and embossed; the next two colors were brayered on for the ground, the post-it mask was removed and the tree was stamped in brown with the leaves colored in with a real red marker, then embossed; the sky was brayered and sponged in the last two colors; the Pinecone color was sponged around the edge; on the really rust layer another leaf flourish was stamped with versamark ink
• Other: dark yellow satin ribbon, picture turns

The great pumpkin

Okay, today was Super Sketchy Sunday at 365 Cards. After the marathon 7 cards yesterday I wasn't sure I'd be up to doing another today, but if I don't want to get behind then I need to, right?!? And then I found out I was selected as one of the Top Trio from last week, then I really had to do something! :) So here's the sketch...When I saw the sketch today, I almost immediately saw a pumpkin (kinda like some people saw a football in last week's). I wasn't sure how to cut one large enough but then my mom reminded me of the punch art pumpkins (made with ovals) that have been on SCS. So I went on a large scale (this is a 5.5x 8.5) and used a medium sized nestie to cut out 5 ovals. Sponged the edges and adhered to card base (I wanted to do something in the background, but everything I could think of seemed to distract from the pumpkin so left it plain and added the ribbon at the bottom). The "vines" are swirls from the Cricut Storybook cart as is the stem (it actually the bottom of the letter "F") :-0 The flowers are some fabric ones that I had. The brads in the center were originally white...I colored them with a prismamarker to match the card. Sentiment is computer generated and hand cut out. Just in case you can't read it, it says, "Produce great pumpkins, the pies will follow later". Paper colors are Pumpkin Pie (of course!), Chocolate Chip, and very vanilla. The ribbon is MS and is actually more taupe than the purple it came out in the photo (still gotta work on the photo taking skills). I think that about cover it. TFL!

P.S. Haven't posted a pic of my puppy lately so here she is. I was taking pictures of a card one morning and she started watching me (usually she ignores me when I do this). Since she was standing so attentively I snapped some pics and this one turned out the best.

Day 197- Super Sketchy Sunday
This one caused me some problems...for some reason I was in the mood to get as close to the sketch as possible and think I accomplished that (just turned it on it's side to work with the images I wanted to use - I CASE'd "Markie's Mom"'s card on SCS...see here).

Deets:

• Paper: Bermuda Bay, Pumpkin Pie, Whisper White (for the oval)
• Stamps: Waterlily (Flourishes) - images were colored with prismamarker and embossed
• Ink: Versacolor Seafoam, Turquoise and Pacific for sponging of the water; Versafine Sepia for the images and distressing
• Other: White gel pen for highlights, Prismamarker French Gray 20% for shadows, circle punch for corners
  

Day 198 - Make a Mosaic
I was gonna CASE my mom's card for this one, but this got into my head first and wouldn't get out! This was my labor intensive card this week (always seems to be at least one). The image is from There's Magic in the Air and is for their challenge too (so needed to heat or dry emboss). Whew! If I ever do this technique again it will be with a larger image...cutting this one up was tedious! :) So here's the deets:

• Paper: Sky Blue, So Saffron, Certainly Celery (these were used for the mosaic tiles of the flower...since I colored over them with a versamaker and wet embossed - going for a ceramic tile look - the colors changed so they came out darker than the real colors...hence why I used Old Olive to mat the flower image, Basic Black used for card base
• Image: digital (see above); I enlarged and printed the image on each of the card stock colors
• Ink: None. I did color in the base image with a black permanent marker as I went to get the look of grout. Oh wait, I did use Palette Noir to stamp the "thank you" at the bottom (hard to see in pic)
• Other: Martha S ribbon, rhinestones

Day 199 - Shape Up!
The shape was hexagon (obviously!). Stole my mom's idea of a beehive! (See why I talk to her!) :) The background paper is an image from Word. Added a transparent white hexagon...was trying to make it look like the "home" for the bee. Other deets:

• Paper: Chocolate Chip, bg image printed onto and bee stamped onto Whisper White
• Image: bee is from Good Times (SU!) - colored with prisma colored pencil/gamsol
• Ink: Palette Noir
• Other: this is little card (3x3)...to get the shape...drew a hexagon in Word to the size i needed...printed it out and used for a template; bee is popped up with a foam dot

Day 200 - It's What's Inside that Counts
This is my super simple card today and was the first one I made today (great way to start the day)! Another 3x3 card to fit the image...inside of card says "Miss You!" Deets:

• Paper: Rose Red, Whisper White
• Image: On the Move (SU!) - colored with prisma colored pencils and gamsol - cut out with nestie
• Ink: Palette Noir
• Other: American Crafts ribbon
  

Day 201 - One, Two, Buckle My Shoe
This one needs a little explanation for those that don't live in Hawaii :) It is very much custom here that before you enter someone's home you remove your shoes outside (here most people wear "slippahs", otherwise known as flipflops, thongs, etc.). My idea for this one was to use as a thank you to a guest (inside sentiment could be "...and thanks for being such a great guest." or something to that effect). I used the MOJO104 layout Anyway, fairly simple card to make. Deets:

• Paper: River Rock, Groovy Guava, Ruby Red, Ginger Blossom DSP, Whisper White
• Image: "Flip_Flops" by VAP! Scrap (Mike's $ bin) - colored with blender pen and coordinating inks (i.e., RR, GG, RR), cut out with nesties
• Ink: Versafine Sepia, sentiment was printed from computer in a "ruby red" color
• Other: Buttons from somewhere (!), cream twill ribbon, rhinestones (MS, I think)
  
  

Day 202 - Once Upon a Time
This one was perhaps one of the most frustrating to make today...I got the main idea (i.e., mirror on the wall) pretty quickly, but could NOT figure out how to embellish it. I tried flowers of all kinds and nothing looked right to me so I just left it plain...oh well, need to work on that. Deets:

• Paper: Certainly Celery, Sahara Sand (embossed with a fiskars texture plate - bricks), whisper white, metallic silver paper and MS brushed gold paper
• Image: Finials and Frames (SU!) - stamped image on silver, cut out inside to get mirror part (distressed with black ink), stamped image on gold and cut outside to get frame
• Ink: Palette Noir, sentiment computer generated
• Other: cream sheer ribbon, silver brad, pop dots to attach mirror
  

Day 203 - Feeling Lucky
Did a search to get some different ideas for this one. Found that "red Chinese lanterns" are considered to be lucky...came up with this. Followed the Fall-to-Layout #60. Deets:

• Paper: Riding Hood Red, Whisper White, Basic Black
• Image: Asian by Design (Inkadinkado), "good luck" from Good Times set (SU!)
• Ink: Versacolor Scarlet, palette noir
• Other: MS ribbon, black metal dots, gold paint pen for accents

Hopefully, I won't get so far behind in the challenges next week...I like spending Saturdays stamping/crafting but the pressure to get it all done by 6pm (my time) was stressful! Mojo Monday - 103

Here's my submission for Mojo Monday's sketch 103. I've also challenged myself to make at least one Christmas card a week so this is for that too :) I tried doing SCS color challenge from June (Riding Hood Red, Kiwi Kiss and Tangerine Tango), but couldn't get the tangerine to work, so just went with the kiwi and riding hood. Other deets:

• Papers: Kiwi Kiss, Riding Hood Red CS and DSP, and whisper white
• Image: from SU! Crab & Company (I LOVE this set!), crab, seashells, and background colored with prisma colored pencils and gamsol. Santa hat was stamped on RHR CS and embellished with liquid applique.
• Other: White twill ribbon

Day 193 - Card Recipe
This is my card following this recipe:

Day 194 - Imagine This: Technology This was a super quick little card (3x3). It's supposed to be a cellphone with a text to my mom :) How this inspires me you're wondering? Well, when I get stuck on a design, I call my mom and she helps me figure out what I should do!

• Papers: basic black, tempting turquoise, whisper white, pink passion, and a brushed silver (except for the latter, these were all left overs from my Chantilly Lace card earlier this week...thought my mom would like these colors too)

Day 195 - Pretty Pattern The pattern was gingham, so I colored the dress in such a pattern (not sure it's easy to tell in the pic). Used the layout from SCS SC245.

Day 191 - Musical Monday

I'm trying to not get too far behind on the daily challenges at 365 Cards, only a day behind so far :) Here's my submission for Monday's challenge which was to be inspired by the song "Chantilly Lace." Some other people had used a phone and I thought this was cute as I think he's talking to a girl on the phone in the song (the beginning of the song may be a phone ringing but it sounds an awful like sleigh bells to me!). So I had the image and found the layout challenge (SSC115) from Stamping 411 yesterday so that part was covered, but what about those pesky colors! Did an on-line search for "colors from the 50's" and ended up finding this which was my inspiration. YEAH! Only took about an hour from start to finish including finding the inspiration! That's phenomenal for me! So here are the deets:

• Papers: Basic Black, Tempting Turquoise, Pink Passion, Whisper White and Rainbow Sherbet DSP...oh yeah, that funky looking rectangle in the middle (vertically) is a silver metallic paper embossed with the dots and diamonds folder from Sizzix. What you are seeing in the bottom portion is my reflection! hehe!
• Stamps/Sentiment: Phone is from the SU! set "On the Move". I covered up the "call anytime" part when inking so I just at the phone image. The sentiment is computer generated in a "fabulous 50's" font.
• Embellies: The turquoise ribbon is from Mikes and the black is from Wally World

WOW!!!

This holiday weekend turned out to be MUCH better than I expected. First I was honored with a selection at Scrap n' Stamp Hawaii, then today I found I was selected as one of the top 3 at 365 Cards AND at There's Magic in the Air! Interestingly, each was for a different card so I guess my mojo was flowing last week! :) Seems getting hit in the face with a tree really did me some good (okay, don't ask about the tree but just so you know, I'm fine now). Anyway, hopefully this good stuff lasts for a bit longer...so wish I could just do this stuff all day instead of working that pesky job. Oh well, I'll add the 365 blinkie later today, but wanted to share the good news now. Thanks to everyone for their wonderful comments...I've been inspired by so many of you so really thanks are to you!


Day 190- Super Sketchy Sunday
Gotta admit, like many others, I was stumped by this sketch...hum...how to put a donut over the tip of a triangle?!? hehe!

Well I decided to do an artistic interpretation of this sketch and recalled some toots by Michelle Zindorf that might work for this (If you haven't check out her blog, you should. She's phenomenal!! Over 250 toots and still going strong. Thanks Michelle!) So I looked at the Night Owl and the Is It Autumn Yet toots, turned the sketch 90 degrees to the right, and came up with what you see below. This actually my second attempt at this scene. For the first I tried to do the moon like in the Night Owl toot but couldn't get it to look right as I wanted the graduated colors in the sky. So I followed more of the Is it...toot but was inspired by both.

Deets:

• I actually bought this stamp set (All Hallow's Eve by Inkadinkado) after seeing this tutorial last year from Michelle. The trees are from a vintage SU! set, Sensational Scenery.


• The sky (with the moon masked after the Narcissus color) was brayered with the Versacolor inks of Narcissus, Heliotrope, and Boysenberry. I then sponged Indigo with a bit of Black and a bit more of the Boysenberry at the top with an emphasis on the upper right corner. Also sponged the Heliotrope in the tress to ground them a bit.


• After getting the sky done, I unmasked the moon and used the negative to cover the rest of the scene while coloring the moon. I decided to make it look a bit like a Harvest Moon, so sponged a bit of Marigold and Paprika inks at the bottom and the middle (trying to make it look a bit like a donut!).


• After that was mostly dry (I prefer to use pigment inks as I like the blended look, however, I do heat gun some of the colors as I'm working so I don't loose them completely and so I can finish the scene quicker!), I stamped the witch using Palette Noir ink. While she was a bit darker than my attempt last night, I still wanted her to pop more, so I undertook the excruciating task of coloring over her with a black marker! UGH...my hand cramped while doing this part :)


• I then went a bit crazy with the white gel pen (kinda regret this part) by adding stars in the sky, highlighting the ones near the witch and adding a bit of "stardust" sweeping out from her (at least that was the look I was going for...not quite sure I got that).


• The scene is matted on Pumpkin Pie CS with a fancy corner punch in the top corners to help hide my fingerprints/smudges at these points! ;) Also used Elegant Eggplant CS and the card base is Basic Black.


• I cut it off at the top of the photo but I wrapped a sheer white ribbon around the CS layers to finish the layout challenge.

Well, I think that about covers it! Whew...now I gotta clean up this mess so I can get some of my paying job work done so I don't go crazy this week! Thanks for looking! :) Aloha!

Gigi - the bathing beauty

Okay, one more post today. Since I got 365 Card challenges done early enough I was able to create one for some other challenges. This one is for There's Magic in The Air - Magical Monday - Paper Piecing using a free digital stamp from the blog and the technique of...well...paper piecing :) I used the layout sketch from Limelight Papercrafts - Sketch Challenge 29: Dots and of course DOTS!!!
I wish I'd made the card a bit smaller...too much blank space for my taste but oh well :) So the deets:

• paper: certainly celery, pink pirouette, whisper white, DCWV Nursery paper stack (for the background rectangle and the paper pieced elements of the image)
• corner dies are cuttlebug and the rhinestones are from Mike's $1 bin.
• used a white gel pen to color in the large dots and stickled the water
• The sentiment stamp is from Inkadinkado
• Image was colored with prismacolor pencils and gamsol, hard to tell in the pic but I color the sunglasses with a silver gel pen; and it and the mat were cut out with nesties

Mary, Mary quite Christmas?

Well this weekend continues to be fun, fun, FUN!!! Got two more cards done and I'm done for the week's challenges at 365 Cards...now I guess I need to clean up/organize the craft room so I'm ready for next week's challenges! hehe!


Day 188- Touchy, Feely Friday I bought some Fun Flock a couple of weeks ago after another "texture" challenge on SCS. Didn't use if for that one but tried it for this one. Can't say I'm such a fan of flocking...seem to remember that one of my grandparents' houses had some wallpaper that had it on it, but other than that, haven't seen it many places :) So for this one I used a scroll stamp that I got in a lot from eBay. Used Martha Stewart glue pad and white fun flock with a bit of Martha Stewart fine glitter in it. Those are done on Real Red CS. Stamped the ornaments on Whisper White with Brilliance Galaxy Gold ink and cut out the images. The "Happy Holidays" stamp is from Mike's. Popped a couple of the ornaments and the sentiment up, and that's about it for this one.


Day 189 - Charming

If you don't know, my mom very much likes Mary Engelbreit design and the cherries and this chair (the charm) are two of her favorite of ME's images. Anyway, not sure she'll get this, but I thought of her the whole time I was making it. Had trouble deciding on the ribbon, couldn't find the exact combo I wanted but this seems to work okay. The bottom was scalloped using a corner rounder (still waiting for that scallop edge punch from my new SU! demonstrator) and 1/16" whole punch. Attached a piece of Whisper White on the inside of the card so the scallops showed up. Thought it needed something to the left/right of the image panel on the red, but couldn't decide on anything so just left it open. Beauty and the Beach

It's Aloha Friday...no work till...Tuesday! YEAH!! To start this holiday weekend off right I spent the evening creating two cards to catch up on some of the challenges at 365 Cards. Here they are...

Day 186 - Ad Inspired
Click on the link to see the Ad we were to be inspired by. As did most, I kept with a predominantly black, white and red color scheme, with a splash of gray (look at the shoes in the pic, that's where that color comes from). I did a Dahlia folded flower in Riding Hood Red DSP with a pewter brad in the middle. The overall card is based on the Criss Cross Card toot at SCS. The gray patterned paper is from SU! Walk in the Park DSP. Base is Basic Black textured CS and the insert is Whisper White with a RHR base. Added a Going Gray tab stamped with a Totally Tabs SU! stamp. The "All Natural Beauty" stamp is, I believe, an Autumn Leaves single stamp. So that's the "beauty"...now for the "beach"

Day 187 - Label It

My fabric label is from Making Memories. I bought it and several others when my local Kmart discontinued all their craft/scrapbooking supplies...just finding a use for some of the stuff I got. :) Anyway, I based the colors on the label and added the Bermuda Bay CS as a pop of color. The base in Very Vanilla and the mat is Pink Pirouette. The images are from the Sparkling Summer set from SU! I was in the mood to color with my prismamarkers and cut out the images. Used a silver paint pen for the accents (hard to tell in the pic). The BB CS is embossed with the circles and dots (not sure if that the exact name) cuttlebug folder. Think that about covers it. So Blue...

Day 185 - Feeling Blue
This is my submission for Day 185 at 365 cards. Deets: Papers = Taken with Teal, Draft, Night of Navy, Whisper White. Stamps = Flourishes Seaside Life and Beach Life, and Stampendous Flourish. Embellies: generic lt blue satin ribbon & copper brads. For the circle scene: stamped and embossed image, versamarked/embossed the clouds, sponged the lt yellow ink, brayered lt blue and indigo inks, for the water brayered lt and dk turquoise inks, cut out with nesties. I wanted it to look like a sunrise, but not sure I quite got there, especially when looking at the pic of the card (gotta get better at taking photos of my creations!) Corner is a cuttlebug die. Think that about covers it. Oh yeah, used the layout from this week at Mojo (MOJO102).
